Cartoonist, Illustrator & Artist George Coghill
Freelance cartoonist/cartoon illustrator artist George Coghill currently calls Kent, Ohio home — also home to Kent State University.
An obsessive addiction to MAD Magazine growing up in Cleveland, Ohio — particularly caricature artist Mort Drucker as well as cartoonists Don Martin and Jack Davis — is to blame for most of my bad jokes and for my obsession with drawing, cartooning & illustration.
After graduating from Kent State University, I was fortunate enough to connect with a local startup that needed a "Renaissance Man" cartoonist/designer to help develop, market and promote a large group of cartoon character groups to the licensing industry. Despite some minor successes (and even a movie option for one of my character groups), things fizzled out and I started on the path to running my own illustration business.
After freelancing for a few years while doing contract design work for a major Cleveland entertainment weekly, it soon came time to jump in with both cartoon feet into my own illustration business. I never looked back and couldn't be happier with that decision.
I have yet to lose that sense of amazement from when I was 5 years old of the power of creating images. That kid is still inside somewhere looking at my own art and saying "Wow I can't believe I drew that!". I still love creating monsters, robots and pinup girls for the part of me that just never grew up — which is a big part!
I truly hope my work brings you as much pleasure in viewing it as I have in creating it.
