Alien Sphinx

Working color sketch for a personal series of bizarre creatures I work on from time to time.

Wanted to get some of these fleshed out. Scanned the original into Photoshop and cleaned up and did the coloring in Photoshop CS4 using a Wacom Untus4 medium graphics tablet.

this will need some further refinements to the overall drawing – not happy with the uraeus snake on the top (looks like a question mark!) and the tail needs some reworking.

Just wanted to share the progress at this stage.

Blue Goon

Just  quick post to show the “blue goon” drawing I did for tonight’s artcast.

Unfortunately I forgot to hit “Record” for the show, so it was a live event only. Next time!

The “blue goon” character was created in Adobe Photoshop CS4 with a Wacom Intuos4 graphics tablet and some store-brand Sudafed to ease my cold & sinus symptoms.

Live ArtCast this Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010

I’ll be doing a live drawing “ArtCast” video session this Wednesday February 10th, 2010 at 9 PM EST as part of the ArtCast Network’s weekly featured artcast series.

Stop by and see/hear me draw live via your web browser. There’s also an integrated chat box so I can read your comments and interact. It’s usually a lot of fun, and if you’ve been to one of my live sessions before you know there will be lots of great software tips for drawing digitally.

ArtCast Network

Just a quick post to let all you artists out there know about an up-and-coming new website from the amazing illustrator Dani Jones — the ArtCast Network.

Dani loves to share her extensive illustration technique knowledge via live streaming videocasts on Ustream, and decided there needed to be a website that brought together all the talented atists out there who do live streaming webcasts on Ustream or other similar sites.

I have a Ustream cartooning & illustration channel, but I am just getting started. The ArtCast website has inspired me to do much more of this, so keep an eye out for future live video stream where you can watch me sketch & draw live in Adobe Photoshop, and work on cartoon-style vector art illustrations in Adobe Illustrator. And all videos will be recorded and saved to my Ustream channel for those of you who aren’t able to watch live.

The ArtCast Network is still in the ‘under construction’ phase right now, but head on over at the link above if you are an artist and want to participate.

“Penny Pincher” Illustration Featured in Video Ad

Penny-Pincher-cartoon-illustration-Uncle-Vic

The “Penny Pincher” custom cartoon illustration was created for retailer UncleVic.com is featured in their current video ad, “Don’t Tell Everybody!” as part of their “Don’t Tell Everybody” Thanksgiving/Black Friday advertising campaign. The artwork will then be featured throughout Uncle Vic’s main advertising & promotions after turkey day.

The “Penny Pincher” cartoon coin art was a custom variation on my Lincoln penny cartoon coin illustration.

A couple of small tweaks were also made to the art to brand it for Uncle Vic — note the “In Vic We Trust” slogan across the top and “Frugality” replacing “Liberty” on the left-hand side.
