This cartoon logo featuring a cute cat was created for an indoor playground business, “Sherby’s Playground”. The cat and the name of the business were both inspired by the owner’s pet cat.
The colors were chosen by the client prior to the project coming to me. Thankfully the colors were complimentary enough (complimentary being a technical term meaning they contrast well with each other). The cat’s fur was dictated by the real cat’s fur color as well. The heart collar charm was also a must-have from the client.
The lettering is a bit of a milestone for me in cartoon logo design, as it was all hand-lettered. I had been growing dissatisfied with using the usual stash of fonts in my arsenal, and also felt that lettering logos by hand would give them an even more unique and signature style.
I wanted the lettering to reflect the idea of a safe playground, so it had to be rounded, bouncy and have something that echoed a slide. The lettering went through some revisions, but remained fairly true to the original sketches and most of the edits were instigated from my end.
The client was very pleased with the final logo, and commissioned me for some additional artwork poses for the character and I also consulted on the development of an actual mascot costume for the character, which is still un production as of this blog post’s writing.
